Blake Williams Has Taken His Game to Another Level

by Ryan James reprinted from The Breakdown

Blake WillliamsThe most impressive performance I have seen this year came from Blake's Blake Williams. Last Thursday against St. Bernards, The Blake School fell by 15 points but Williams was simply incredible. He scored 40 points often facing a pair of defenders that consisted of the speedy Trent Davis, the rough Chad Jones and the long arms of Trevor and Pat Cassidy. However Williams was defended it did not matter. On one play he dribbled around a double team on the wing, went through the lane while passing another defender and then Blake went opposite rim with a perfectly placed lay-in over the top of a leaping Mbakwe. Blake's pull-up jumper in traffic is gorgeous because he gets up so high with squared shoulders and his release looks unreal right now. His coaches at Blake said that this summer, Williams put a surreal amount of work into his shot and it is paying off.

Blake Williams looks to be that performer who was a talented top 40 kid coming into the year but then pushed to top 10 at the end. From what I saw in the St. Bernards game, Williams could have a real special year if he keeps working hard to play at this level. Through five games Blake is averaging 30.4 points per game and 7.6 rebounds while hitting 50 percent of his shot attempts.
