2008 Baseball Preview

The 2007 Blake Bears compiled a record of 15-7 with a 2nd place conference finish and hope to contend again in the 2008 season. The Bears graduated eight seniors, including their batting leader, but hope that their young talent can step up to the plate. At the helm for the Bears is Coach Steve Johnson in his 29th and final year as varsity coach. Coach Johnson has compiled a record of 305-215 and is assisted by coaches George Blackwell and Nick Rathmann.
Captains this year are seniors Phil Morgan (P, 2007 Pitching Leader, All-Conference Honorable Mention, All Sub-Section 4AA), Thomas Wheeler (C, 2007 MVP, All-Conference), and Jim Yablonski (OF).
These captains will be supported by fellow seniors Seth Jurgens (P), Benjamin Hughes (OF-P, 2007 All-Conference, All Sub-Section 4AA), Tyler Hoeg (OF-P, 2007 All-Conference), and Frankie Press (P).
Also making the varsity roster are juniors Jared Falkanger (3B, 2007 All-Conference Honorable Mention), Devin Durant (OF), Jeffrey Dunn (2B), Blake Doerring (SS), Harrison Blankenship (OF), sophomores Austin Hoeg (3B), Zach Kozlak (2B), Stu Martin (P), Tyler Storlie (2B), and freshman Tim Zellmer (1B-P) and Brett Szalapski (C).
