Fiegel Commits to MIT

Erik Fiegel

Erik Fiegel The Blake School senior Erik Fiegel has committed to attend Massachusetts Institute of Technology located in Cambridge, Massachusetts and play baseball for the Engineers. MIT is a member of the New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC), a NCAA Division III conference. The Engineers posted a 21 and 14 record in 2006 and advanced to the NEWMAC championship game for the first time in school history, which was followed by a second consecutive appearance in the ECAC Championships.

Blake's head baseball coach Steve Johnson describes Fiegel, "Erik is an all conference performer and has been our captain for the last two years, and he is a quiet, confident, capable leader. We look to Fiegel for a lot and he gives us all he has and then some."

Andy Barlow enters his fourth season at the helm of the Engineers' program. In his first three seasons, Barlow has revitalized the club by leading MIT to its first back-to-back 20-win seasons.

Barlow is a 1985 graduate of the University of Vermont and his previous coaching experience includes nine seasons as head coach at Vassar College and stints as an assistant at the University of Maryland and Colgate University.

Of his college selection Fiegel reflects, " I'm really excited about my opportunity to play baseball at MIT. I chose MIT because it gives me a chance to play the game I love and receive a great education at the same time. I've always been extremely interested in the sciences and MIT gives me the opportunity to expand my knowledge."

It's not too late to catch Erik and his teammates yet this spring. The varsity baseball schedule id located here
