Blake Sends Both Alpine Ski Teams to State

Another year, another state meet trip for the Blake School's alpine ski teams.

If it sounds redundant, that's because it is. Blake has had a representative at state for 28 straight years.

This time, they will have 12, as both the boys and girls teams captured Section 5 titles last week at Welch Village.

"They can kick us out of one section but they can't keep us out of state," said Blake head coach Bob Teslow, whose teams prevailed despite being moved from Section 4 into a much tougher Section 5. "One of the kids said that after we won, and I thought it was really cool because it was true."

With the performances his teams turned in last week, it likely wouldn't have mattered what section Teslow's teams were skiing in.

The boys won with 454 team points, 51 better than second place St. Thomas Academy.

Michael Ankeny, Peter Ankeny, Marc Massie and Neal McKinly led the way. The foursome finished 3rd, 6th, 9th and 12th respectively.

Jason Briggs (23rd) and Robby Gagne (72nd) rounded out the boys competitors.

The girls took home the section crown with 425 team points, 14 more than second place Lakeville South.
