Lower School Director

The Blake School seeks an experienced independent school leader committed to excellence in all areas of education to serve as Director of its Lower School (grades pre-kindergarten through 5th) of 550 students and 80 faculty and staff located on two campuses in the western suburbs of Minneapolis, Minnesota, to begin July 1, 2009.
The Lower School Director reports directly to the Head of School, is a member of the school's Administrative Council and is responsible for all facets of the division's operation. The successful candidate will have a lively intelligence, a strong work ethic, a commitment to a challenging elementary curriculum, an ability to work and communicate well with a variety of constituents, and a good sense of humor. The ability to attend to both the overall mission of the school and the daily details of Lower School life is essential.
The Lower School Director will:
- Articulate the vision, goals and dreams of the division.
- Hire, evaluate and support the professional development of Lower School administrators, teachers, teaching assistants and staff.
- Facilitate the training of new employees.
- Coordinate professional development opportunities for faculty and staff.
- Develop, document, and oversee divisional policies and procedures.
- Plan and facilitate faculty meetings.
- Oversee curriculum development and coordination among the grades (PK-5) and between the two campuses.
- Participate in admission events and decision-making processes re: student enrollment.
- Co-develop the master schedule for both campuses.
- Provide regular written communication to parents.
- Oversee campus facilities with an eye to long-term maintenance and programmatic needs, and the development of new facilities.
- Develop and monitor the budget for all Lower School programs.
- Represent the division on school-wide leadership committees.
The Blake School is a pre-kindergarten through grade 12, co-educational, nonsectarian, independent day school enrolling 1,379 bright, talented students from nearly 60 Twin Cities-area communities.
