The Life Style of the Rich and Famous?
Black and White Silver Print: Photogram
I decided to make a photogram about what culture is like today, in 2007. The general public is obsessed with celebrities, and always puts a spotlight on the rich and famous. We want to know everything they are doing, what they wear, who they are in a relationship with, and what scandal they are part of now. My photogram highlights the celebrities, almost like putting an actual spotlight on them. The women sitting in the café are staring through the glass, theoretically getting a closer look, at Lindsey Lohan's life. It also shows the amount of bad attention they get through the media, and how life as a celebrity is not as glamorous as it may seem.
To create this photogram, I made transparencies of magazine fashion spreads and articles, and also used accessories to further the dimension and light. I placed glass on top of the transparencies, and then placed the accessories on top of the glass. To create the different shades and dimensions in the photogram, I used the dimmest available light (f/16) on the whole print, then blocked out certain sections, so different areas would be exposed. On the areas that were not covered, I used the brightest level of light to create really light areas.
