6 Years From Now
Black and White Silver Print

This is a shot from the hip shoot we did in Uptown. The goal was to make a picture of someone from your hip and capture them without them realizing they're being photographed. I think this print displays that well because the women are oblivious to me capturing their images and they're faces are still showing in the picture. I like the fact that one of the women is off to the side rather than in the middle because it provides a sense of balance. It also makes the photograph look more realistic and spontaneous which are key elements of this shoot for me. They're faces are slightly blurred which also presents a sense of motion. For me, this assignment showed me that it's possible to catch someone's real feelings on film when they aren't aware that anyone is watching them. Taking a picture of someone who knows what you're doing has an effect on how they look, no matter how "natural" they can act in front of a camera.
