Into The Plastic Abyss
Black and White Silver Print: Photogram

The photogram Into The Plastic Abyss was created in several steps. First, I took a blank sheet of photographic paper and splattered developer over its expanse. Then, I arranged three truffles (the white dots), one with a plastic flamingo protruding from its top, and the DVD case on top of the paper. I strategically placed feathers in several places, and then held a glass sheet on which I had sprinkled water over the paper. With the glass held above the paper, I exposed it for 15 seconds with an aperture of 16. Finally, I developed the image. During the developing process, I removed the paper from the developer early, so as not to overdevelop the photogram and make the colors darker than I wanted. Obviously, the one drawback to this was that the blacks in the image did not turn out as deep as they could have been, but I believe that removing the paper from the developer when I did was what allowed it to portray so incredibly the space and depth between the images, the paper, and each other.
