Equilibrium
Ink on Paper
This print shows my first experience with rubylith while finding a sense of equilibrium. To make this, we took small rectangles of rubylith and cut the first layer of it (the red part) using an exacto-knife. Our intent was to cut the Rubylith so that our rectangle had an equal amount of positive and negative shape, creating equilibrium. I divided my rectangle in half to make equal positive and negative parts, but discovered that the negative space seemed to over power the positive space on the Rubylith. So I added pieces of positive Rubylith to the negative side to make the design to seem more equal. I really enjoyed working on this print because we then got to combine all of our Rubylith prints into one big print and the different designs looked really interesting as a whole together. I learned a lot more about finding equilibrium and unity that I can use with later printing.
