Leaves
Organic Pigment on Paper
For this print, an alternative transfer print, we found leaves from outside that had different pigments in them. We then laid the different leaves in an arrangement of our choice inside a folded piece of paper. After folding the paper shut, we took hammers and gently hit the paper to transfer the leaf pigment. I picked out a couple of leaves that had green, deep purple and magenta in them to add a warm color with green. I also picked out a large maple leaf and put it in the center as focal point for viewers to see. After we hammered the paper, we opened up the print and took off the leaves. I realized that one side of the print had more detail than the other side that seemed to look more smudged from the leaves, but both sides had equal amounts of pigment.
