Captain Matt
Black and White Silver Print

Our shooting assignment was to find at least three people that we do not know, and to bracket shots of them. My photograph is of a man named Mateo Quintana, "Captain Matt". I traveled to Puerto Rico for Spring Break and Matt was the captain of a boat we took to a different island. It was a little awkward to ask strangers to have their picture taken, but Matt was very nice about it. When I developed my photograph, I first developed it at F11 for 15 seconds, but found out the background was not as dark as I would have liked. So the second time, I did the same thing but before developing the photograph, I used a technique called "burning" to expose the background for more time. This shooting assignment made us stretch a lot beyond our comfort zone, but I got to know some new people.
