She Jump Roped So Fast…
Black and White Silver Print

This picture of my sister jump roping was taken at a slow shutter speed which allowed the jumpers motion to be shown in the print. The background behind the jumper is in adequate focus, creating contrast between the subject (the jump roper) and the background. I took this same picture twice in the shoot, once on a high shutter speed and once on a low shutter speed. In the high shutter speed picture, the jump roper was in focus and so was the background. In this picture, the jump roper's speed was not called to the viewer's attention, as it was in the picture with the low shutter speed. In these pictures, motion is such a major part in telling the story of the picture. The print with the blurred jump roper portrays the story of the jump roper's motion. This print may make the viewer think, "Wow, she jump ropes so fast…"
