Walk on Together
Black and White Silver Print

As I begun this project I initially chose to work on this photograph because it seemed to be visually pleasing. Granted all I had to judge it on was a negative about 1 inch around, but even that small piece jumped out at me as being an interesting and unique subject matter. Little did I know that in the weeks that I worked on enlarging, adjusting, and fixing this print just how I wanted it, I would come to realize its metaphorical meaning as well as its visual potential. My intention of this print was to express it descriptively. By using a number four filter I enhanced the contrast between the snow and my mom with my dog. It also seemed to give the snow a crisp texture just like the "crunch" sound it had made when I was taking the picture. Metaphorically, I believe this print represents the companionship between man and dog. Their steps are in sync as if to symbolize how closely they fit together. After all, a dog is a man's best friend, right?
