Caught
Black and White Silver Print
I took this picture at my house, in Orono, Minnesota, a rather rural area of the greater Minneapolis area. I became aware of a series of willows that were dominated by lines in the branches I took the photograph at f11 with a shutter speed of 1/2000. In the dark room I exposed the image at f11 with a 4 filter for 8 seconds for my final print. Using the # 4 filer emphasize the lines through contrast. I named the picture "Caught" because it reminds me of a dream catcher or a spider web. A dream catcher is a small hoop containing a horsehair mesh, or a similar construction of string or yarn, decorated with feathers and beads. Native Americans believed that dream catchers would give their owners good dreams. A spider web is made to catch small insects for a spider to eat. So after I thought about these connections I called this photograph "Caught".
