Peeling
Black and White Silver Print

For this photo I experimented with depth of field by using different apertures. I took this photo of a drainpipe outside of school. I got close to the pipe and decided I wanted to focus in on the cracking paint on the pipe. To accomplish this I used my new knowledge of depth of field. Since the background is out of focus it fades away and allows the eye to concentrate on the peeling paint. I created this shallow depth of field by getting close to the pipe and using a big aperture to affect the sharpness of objects near and far. This shallow depth of field placed my critical focus on the peeling drainpipe, acceptable focus on the edge of the pipe, and made the wall behind the pipe become blurred. I like that the perspective of the photo takes the pipe out of its element and makes the audience wonder what the picture is of.
