Red Lips and Equipment
Ink on Index Paper

My mouth stood out a lot in my portrait print and it was suggested to me that I print the mouth somewhere weird on my head for my next edition, following the "take it to the next level" theme. In order to only print the mouth, I had to block out the rest of the screen using a piece of newsprint with a hole in it for the area I wanted to print. I then chose to print it in red, the color of mouths. Also, the contrast of a bright red mouth with big teeth and braces would really stand out against the paper and the head printed around it (which was going to be in a darker, more monochromatic color). I printed the blocked out screen and I liked just the big red mouth right at the center so much that I decided to not print the head. When I thought about what to title the piece the name that instantly came to my mind was Red Lips and Equipment. The print is just that-big red lips and braces-so it immediately felt natural.
