What Happened?
Screen Print on Index Paper
The title of this print is kind of a reflection of the process that went into making this print. I was absent for the "orientation" day for this kind of print. Therefore, I was a step behind most people in the class because I didn't know what we were doing and how we were doing it. I quickly caught on, however. This particular print is actually a combination of three different screens. The first was red and was positively dominant (meaning that there was more area on the paper that was printed red than not). Since red is such a powerful color we decided that it would be best if it was our base layer so it didn't cover everything else up. We messed up a bunch of this first screen because ink didn't go through the screen very well in some areas. Our middle layer/2nd screen was a blue displaying negative dominance. This layer went much smoother. Our third layer was a yellow exhibiting equal dominance. We realized halfway through printing this last layer that the registration (how the different prints line up on the paper) was off because we had not printed in the same direction throughout the process. As a result, we only have one final print.
