Circles of Confusion
Black and White Silver Print
I took this photograph on Kenwood Avenue in Minneapolis, Minnesota, next to the Blake high school. When I took this photograph I was working on depth of field, the distance of subject matter from the object in critical focus. My intent was to have the dandelion in critical focus. I used the rule of thirds to position the dandelion in a place interesting to the viewer's eye. After I developed the print I saw circles of confusion, the white circles all over the print. Since the lens was not focused perfectly on the dandelion, the light's reflection on the lens caused these circular blurs. After matting my print I realized that my mistakes with depth of field made the print interesting to look at. I also wanted to give my picture a warmer feel, so I used a number two filter.
