Shadow Flower
Sabattier Black and White Silver Print
This is a photo of a poinsettia I took at the Walker art center greenhouse for an assignment to take shots that showed the elements of art. I took this shot to show a good example of value, but the shot turned out to have to high contrast to show a good example of value. So, I tried using it to make this inverted Sabattier print. The flower itself, which was originally the lightest part of the photo, became almost completely black, because it was exposed during the second exposure. The resulting photo is was this surreal image. It looks like all tones have been inverted, but really only the lightest tones are replaced with darks.
