Afton State Park, Minnesota: Looking West

This photo was taken using infrared film. It is sensitive to heat, so colder areas appear darker than usual, as does the sky in this shot of a sunset. Only the clouds and the sun are bright. I shot a role of this infrared film while hiking in Afton State Park on the day preceding this sunset. At the end of the day, I knelt down in the grass and took this photo. The negatives from this role were very light, so I had to use a high contrast filter to bring out the details. I liked it because it was a dramatic view of the sunset, but very simple. The only area with recognizable detail is that around the sun, and it gives the shot a clear focal point.
