The Claw of the Island
Ink on Paper

I really enjoyed making this piece of art. I had never made a print using the press machine, and it was a unique experience. It took me a while to come up with this arrangement of the vinyl, but when I saw it I knew it was the one to use. It can be interpreted in many different ways, and that is one of the things I love about it. Some people see it as a fierce bear claw, while others see a calm, swaying palm tree. Those contrasts are great and really leave my piece open for new ideas and interpretations. When I was choosing the colors to use in my print, I knew I wanted a cool color to be dominant. I thought that would bring out the breezy feeling of the palm tree, as well as the violence of the claw. My end result was great, and truly one of my favorite pieces I’ve done.
