Spread Out
Organic Material on Paper
I created this print using a small tree branch, a leaf from a flower, and a small flower. To transfer the plant pigments from the plants to the paper I used a hammer to pound the pigments into the fibers of the paper. The hardest part of this was trying to figure out how to get the pigment to create an image without coming out as one giant blob of color. It was also hard to keep the plants from moving so they came out as a double image in some places, which gives the impression of movement. This was an irregular way of printing that I didn’t expect us to explore during this class, but the idea of a direct transfer print was a new for discovery. Plus, pounding a hammer against paper is an interesting from of art.
