My Fur Coat
Ink on Index Paper
This piece draws inspiration from the punk art movement. Anna Savin and I created the first three layers together including the violet and yellow rainbow rolled base print, the organic appearing orange layer and the reduced turquoise layer. I was then encouraged to take my screen, which we had been using for this project, and paint on more emulsion where the image from my self-portrait had stained the screen. I printed this layer (in green) on one of our two final prints. You can see negative eye shapes near the bottom of this piece. The punk aspects of this print include the intense contrasting colors, the carefree design of the layers and the random addition of the face, which creates an asymmetrical balance in the piece as a whole. It's called "My Fur Coat" for a silly reason I see a distinct cheetah-spot pattern in the print and the print has been personalized by the addition of my face.
