This photo was taken in St. Thomas near a botanical garden. There was a lot going on in the frame, so I wanted to see what would happen if I applied the sabattier effect to it. Much of the image lost its contrast and a once peaceful scene became strange and sinister. I think it is fitting since these Virgin Islands are only tropical paradises to the tourists who visit, but there is a alien, dark side to them. We just don’t stay long enough to probe the depths of these places that will remain superficial getaways.
