Approaching
Black and White Silver Print

In this photograph my intention was to use the rule of thirds by composing the two strong horizontal lines dividing the photograph into thirds. I set the enlarger at f8 for 9 seconds and I dodged it in the bottom left. The photograph was taken at my cabin up in Crosslake, MN. It was taken right at the beginning of winter as a thin layer of ice was forming on the lake, and after our dock was taken out. Through the process of taking and developing this photograph I discovered more about photographing landscape; how all the pieces fit together to make a good composition. My title Approaching is meant to describe the approach of winter as displayed in the photo by the dying grass and ice slowly forming on the top layer of the lake.
