Crumbling
Black & White Silver Print

When I took this photo I was not thinking much of the way the photo as a whole would look, rather I was focusing on using the rule of thirds as much as possible. I took the same photograph with the pile of wood at the base of the tree in all eight of the possible positions. I found this one the most visually appealing and coincidentally, this one also incorporated the most aspects of the rule of thirds. The Base of the tree was supposed to be the focal point, however, the tree also rises along one of the vertical lines. The top and bottom of the cinderblock wall also follow the horizontal lines that separate the photograph into thirds. Besides, these technical aspects, I like this photograph because of the creepy feel it exudes. The vines growing along the crumbling wall, and the rotted wood at the base of the tree give the setting a deserted, air. The tall dull gray wall discourages, yet invites further exploration.
