Inheritance
Black & White Silver Print: Photogram
I have begun to see parts of my mother reflected in me. I have found ways in which I have inherited her characteristics, her mannerisms, her appearance, her morals. In all of these categories, my mother and I differ: sometimes a little sometimes very much, but even when we seem to be at opposite ends of the spectrum, I can always see a glimpse of her in me. In this photogram I incorporated various things which I have inherited from my mother. On the right side of the photogram are aspects of my mother which I have willingly accepted. My mother and I both played the violin. I also wear the same cologne my mother used to wear when she was in high school, Charlie. On the other side, of the photogram in the gray and white area, are things I inherited which I do not necessarily embrace, for example, my nearsightedness, and my Christianity. Nonetheless I realize that they are a part of me which I will always carry with me. There are aspects of my mother which are clearly reflected in me and other parts which leave only faded marks, but all of them shape who I am. They are my inheritance.
