Turkey Time
Black and White Silver Print

Ironically, I spent my American Thanksgiving in Canada with the rest of my family and we invited some of our Canadian friends over to experience a real Thanksgiving (Canadian Thanksgiving is not nearly as celebrated). This photograph captures the infamous carving of the turkey, being done by my dad’s friend/co-worker who is also American. Although it was taken inside, where the amount of light was limited, bracketing helped to find the proper exposure. For this photo I used an aperture of F/11 for 13 seconds with a number 5 filter for extra contrast. I decided to add an expressive quality to my photograph because I wanted it to have almost an old movie feel – because Thanksgiving transcends time and it’s a tradition that dates back to the beginning of our country. Now, a lot of our sense of tradition has been lost, but Thanksgiving remains an important part of our society.
