Collide
Black and White Silver Print

This image, taken through the side door of the Paper Source in Uptown, caught my eye as I was going into the cafˇ next door for breakfast. I was struck by how real the flowers looked, so I grabbed my camera and took a shot. In the final product I ended up capturing not only the flowers but part of the street behind me as well, and I included some of the door to anchor the almost abstract quality in the rest of the photo. I decided to name this Collide because of the way the flowers seem to bleed into the street reflection near the top - the store and real world appear to collide into each other. The purpose of this photo is to illustrate that everything has multiple layers, and it's amazing what you can see in one frozen moment of time. To achieve a photo descriptive of the detailed image that I really saw, I exposed the negative to an aperture of f/11 for 18 seconds to attain a wide range of values with a filter 3 for added contrast between light and dark.
