The Price We Pay
Black and White Silver Print: Photogram
To create this photogram I used objects a variety of objects that represent material aspects of life, such as a pair of shoes for accessories, a brush for make-up, price tags for clothing, and keys for a house/car. The purpose of this was to reflect what we do to try to look good and feel important, as well as the price we pay for all these material things to try and achieve that. The main focus of the piece is the quote by Mark Twain in the center, which I added to say that all of these other things don't really mean anything, and these lies often overshadow the true people behind them. In making this photogram, I used various objects of different opaqueness, to achieve a composition with an array of values. As well as using concrete objects, I made transparencies of the shoes and price tag to bring out the detail. I exposed the picture to F-8 light for 10 seconds because I wanted the background to be stark so that the other objects come outwards.
