The Inconvenient Truth Part II
Black & White Silver Print

This was my Sabattier photograph. The picture was taken of outside the outside of our school. In the foreground are the vines on the outside of our junior lounge and in the background, are administrative offices which are out of focus. This picture is symbolic of the students’ the quiet rebellion that is overpowered by the administration at this school. As upperclassmen we would like to think that we are rebellious and no longer bow to authority, but in reality the administration at this school has instilled a heightened sense of fear in all of us. We have been taught to do exactly what we are told and a sense of inferiority has been instilled in all of us, no matter how much we would like to deny it. This was originally my Rule of Thirds photograph, but I liked it so much that I wanted to further emphasize my point through Sabttier. I exposed the photograph first at Fx11 @ 8 seconds, then after developing for 30 seconds and water washing it, I exposed it again at Fx16 @ 6 seconds all with filter number 5, then I fully developed the photo. The result didn’t emphasize the point that I was trying to convey with my original photograph, but I feel that the effect of the Sabattier created a different effect that, after seeing the first photograph, could be interpreted as a second part to it. The drastic contrast between light and dark blended the strong vines into the brick wall and illuminated more of an encapsulation of the brick than the first one. If I were to place the two photos side by side I would say that this is a picture of the future and what will become of the students if we keep robotically bowing to authority.
