Blue, Blue, Rock
Cyanotype
This type of photograph is called a cyanotype and, thus, it is blue (cyan is a shade of blue). I originally took this picture on the shore of Lake Superior with a Holga toy camera. After developing a normal print of the negative, I scanned the print, and reversed the blacks and whites, resulting in a negative. This negative was then printed onto a sheet of acetate. The acetate was placed onto a sheet of paper that was coated with emulsion and exposed to daylight for 20 minutes. After being washed, it turned the blue color seen here. I made a cyanotype of this particular photograph because of its relaxing and calm atmosphere. This meshes with the feelings that are associated with the color blue (calm, relaxed, mellow). Thus, the picture has a calming effect on the viewer and is meant take them away to the shores of Lake Superior.
