Blended Motion
Ink on Paper

This print was created using vinyl records. We took the record and broke it up into dozens of smaller pieces. To break my record I used my hands as much as possible, this allowed me to have more control over the smaller shapes that I used in the print. After the record was broken, the smaller pieces were arranged on a matt board, and once the final layout was complete, they were glued down using hot glue. When I arranged this print I was really focusing on the overall flow of the piece. The direction and the orientation of the pieces as individuals and as groups affect the motion of the eye of the viewer. The direction of motion in this piece is spreading out and up. When I was applying ink to the template I was very considerate of how the color would affect the motion of the piece. The cool colors, being blue, green, and yellow, are the dominant colors and are highly concentrated in the center of the piece. This made its effect more subtle, and although the blended colors may not be visually appealing at first glance, they increase the overall motion in the print.
