We're Punching Out The Clock
Ink On Index Paper

The beginning of this assignment started with one central theme, punk as a social and political movement. We were challenged to create a series of prints that carried the characteristics of the punk era. For inspiration, we were encouraged to listen to punk music in class while we worked and read an article from Art News describing the punk movement. The first step was to choose one primary color, and its direct opposite. Then, we used these two colors on a sheet of paper and applied them, half and half on a sheet of paper using the rainbow roller technique. After that, we added emulsion in creative ways that responded to the significant characteristics of the punk movement. We then printed the split compliment with the reduced stencil. This process was used for our final stencil and then printed in a direct compliment of the previous color. The randomness of our application of the emulsion showed some of the underlying themes of punk, rebellion, and childlike randomness.
