Volcano
Screen Print and Ink on Paper
In this piece I feel it represents a mood of calmness and warmth because of the reds and orange colors that are expressed. This print was created our first chance to create a real print. We used a new technique and experimented to make our final product. We used a paper stencil technique to create a multicolored even print. In this print my partner and I decided to create a repeated pattern for our print by placing ripped or cut pieces of paper on a blank slate. By spreading color on the paper, the places that were not covered by the ripped pieces became the color of the ink. The rest was white, creating pattern. Shape and color were very important in this piece because shape created the pattern and our focus, while color made the print come alive and make the design stand out. Also positive and negative space was a huge factor in this project. When I first saw the finished product I saw a volcano or earth like image, thus the reason for our name. The colors were warm and our shapes were almost rock-like.
