One Way
Black and White Silver Print
I was previously familiar with the Rule of Thirds assignment, because I'd helped my sister with hers. I took this photo of a one-way sign at school. It wasn't one of the assigned pictures; I took it near the end of the roll. I wanted to be creative with the Rule of Thirds, so I decided that instead of photographing a discrete object or sharp line in the exact position required by the Rule of Thirds, I would photograph part of an object extending into one corner of the frame. The tree was an accident of the location of the sign, but it added a nice vertical. I also thought it was ironic that although the words "one way" imply a restricted path and one accepted way of doing things, my photo was a little offbeat; I certainly didn't "stick to the rules."
