Girl
Black and White Silver Print

The assignment for this project was to photograph the faces of three different people with their signed consent. I chose to go to the library to shoot the assignment, because I thought it would be a relaxed environment in which people wouldn't mind stopping what they were doing to have their photos taken. I later learned that I should have taken my photos outdoors, because the camera didn't have enough light to expose the pictures properly.

Because my film turned out unexposed, I had one option only for the selection of a negative to print. The person whose photo I was taking was a little put off by the idea of being photographed, and in my rush to finish the job I didn't bracket the shot, but it turned out not to be necessary. There was just enough light shining through the window in the background to properly illuminate my subject. She was there with her younger brother and had picked out a few books to check out when I asked her if I could take her picture. I enjoyed making this photograph because it was simple and demonstrated some tonal range.
