Hear Me Roar!
Black and White Silver Print

This print taught me a lot about the difficulties of using color negatives. This shot was from a color roll of film I had taken about a year earlier, and I desperately wanted to develop this shot, because it had worked well in color. However, the only print I could get on black-and-white paper was with the #4 contrast filter, which didn't give me nearly the amount of contrast that I wanted. Eventually, I decided to use Photoshop to increase contrast and change the levels. I felt guilty about it, but I decided it was worth it in order to give the print a certain effect. I realized that, in my opinion, it's okay to use new technology. It's not cheating. It's far better to use the advantages at hand to create the "best" possible product rather than to limit yourself by clinging to the darkroom. This print would not look the same way at all if I only used the resources of the darkroom. I still used the same amount of concentration and effort that I would have by using the darkroom, and with a better result.
