Photogram: Black and White Silver Print
This piece consists of four headlines from Friday, February 2nd. I was particularly blown away by the quantity of devastating events that took place within a 48-hour period. I chose to include my own handwriting because I think it imposes a sense of mortality in a world full of euphemisms that evades the subject of death. I believe that as a culture we often times do not examine the effects of the media, so I included many of the frightening images we can face in a normal day. We perceive these images as the truths of the world, instead of trying to change the world for the better. I used a photogram with transparencies of the text and photos, in combination with a permanent marker to write the text in the middle.
