Second Grade Tempera Paintings

Second grade students learned to paint using traditional tempera painting methods used widely before the invention of oil paint. Ancient Egyptian sarcophagi and traditional Greek and Russian icons are all painted using these same materials.
"Separating the yolk in my hand was really fun and then we measured it. We added drops of water and drops of vinegar, that's to preserve the egg yolk...then we added pigment...well, pigment is a big story..."
