Mark Mitchell '83

While at Blake, Mark Mitchell was an outstanding athlete, lettering 10 times in football, basketball and baseball. He captained all three sports and earned all-state honors in baseball and all-conference honors in baseball, football and basketball.

Mark continued his athletic success playing baseball for Dartmouth. He had a career batting average of .340, set a record of 164 career hits in 1987, and was named 2nd team All-New England in 1987. In his senior year, he was MVP of Dartmouth's EIBL/Ivy League championship team, which beat 7th ranked Michigan in the NCAA regionals. In addition, with 110 career runs, Mark remains on the roster of Dartmouth's top-10 batting records.

From 1987 to 1988, Mark played for the New York Yankees farm system in Ft. Lauderdale, Fla., and Oneonta, N.Y., where he maintained a batting average of .320. He subsequently retired to pursue a career in the hedge fund trading business.

Mark continues to pursue his passion for baseball by coaching the East Tonka Little League All Star Team, which, in 2009, won the Minnesota State Little League Championship.

For his achievements in and commitment to the sport of baseball, the School is proud to name Mark Mitchell its 2010 Alumnus Athlete of the Year.
