Alumna Athlete of the Year
Louise Wakefield Otten ’65

This year’s Alumna Athlete of the Year Award, Louise Wakefield Otten, is a two-sport, world-class athlete.

While a student at Northrop, Otten was a world-class figure skater, having passed her United States, Canadian and international gold tests. She won an international competition in Germany and competed in the National Senior Ladies competitions in 1964, 1965 and 1966, when she competed against Peggy Fleming.

As an equestrian (see photo), Otten is one of the top amateur hunter and jumper riders in the United States. She rode hunters to titles in the most competitive venues in the country, including championships on three different horses at the Pennsylvania National Horse Show, Washington International Horse Show and the Palm Beach Winter Equestrian Festival.

Otten now concentrates on jumper competitions, including international-level shows in Canada, Belgium and The Netherlands. She has placed high among amateur jumpers at Valkenswaard in The Netherlands in competitions in 2004 to 2007.

We are indeed honored to recognize Otten’s world-class athletic accomplishments by bestowing on her the Alumna Athlete of the Year Award.
