Math & Science Awards
Bausch & Lomb Science Award
The Bausch & Lomb Science Award was first presented in 1991. It is given by the science department to one outstanding junior on the basis of his or her academic achievement in science.
Bryn Mawr-Haverford Award
The Bryn Mawr-Haverford Award for Excellence in Mathematics was originally a Northrop award. It is given each year to a senior for outstanding achievement in mathematics. The award is voted upon by the Upper School mathematics faculty.
Harold Hodgkinson Award
This award honors Harold Hodgkinson, who taught science at Blake for 44 years, from 1927 until his retirement in 1971. It was first presented at Blake in 1974. The Harold Hodgkinson Science Award is given to a senior boy to recognize his excellence in science. The award is determined by a vote of the science faculty.
Radcliffe Club Award
The Radcliffe Club Award in Science was originally a Northrop award. It is given to a senior girl to recognize her excellence in science. The award is determined by a vote of the science faculty.
Rensselaer Award
The Rensselaer Medal was established in 1916. It was awarded for the first time at Blake School in 1968. It recognizes superlative academic achievement of young students and motivates them toward careers in science, engineering and technology. Each year's recipient is selected by the combined mathematics and science faculty.
Sara Armfield Hill Award
This award honors Sara Armfield Hill, who taught math and physics at the Northrop School. Soft-spoken, yet tough and challenging, she was well respected by her students for her high standards. This award is given jointly by the math and science departments to the outstanding sophomore boy and girl in both math and science.
