Annual Fund Frequently Asked Questions

FAQ

Q:

Why does Blake ask for contributions in addition to tuition and fees?

A:

Tuition and fees do not cover the full cost of educating each student at Blake. In fact, tuition and fees only make-up about 75% of that cost. The Annual Fund and other fundraising efforts help close this gap between tuition dollars and the school’s actual operating costs.

Q:

Why doesn’t Blake charge enough to cover operating expenses?

A:

At Blake, we believe that educational excellence stems from an exposure to a variety of socio-economic, racial, ethnic and geographic perspectives. We are able to help achieve this goal through our fundraising efforts, thereby ensuring that talented students from all backgrounds have access to a Blake education.

Q:

Is the Annual Fund unique to The Blake School?

A:

No. Independent schools have long depended on the financial generosity and loyalty of alumni, parents, grandparents and friends to provide an exceptional education to all.

Q:

How much should we give? What does Blake expect of us?

A:

We hope that you will choose to participate in the Annual Fund to the extent that you are able. We ask you to remember that your contribution, along with those of all our donors, will directly enhance your child’s education.

Q:

Is my gift tax deductible?

A:

Yes. The Blake School is a registered 501(c)(3) non-profit. All contributions to the Annual Fund are fully tax deductible to the full extent allowed by law.

Q:

Can I make a gift for a specific purpose?

A:

Yes. You can make a restricted gift through the Annual Fund by directing your gift to either Financial Aid or Faculty Development. If you have an interest in funding a special initiative, please contact the Advancement Office.

Can we make our gift anonymously?

May I volunteer my time?
