National Merit
More than 1.3 million juniors in over 21,000 high schools nationwide entered the 2004 National Merit Program by taking the preliminary SAT or PSAT. Each year the National Merit Scholarship Corporation recognizes the top performers by awarding them a letter of commendation or advancing them to semifinalist standing.

Students receiving a letter of commendation performed among the top five percent in the nation on the PSAT and are recognized for their academic potential. Students designated as semifinalists rank in the top one percent of the nation and form a select group of approximately 16,000 high school seniors. Semifinalists/finalists advance in the competition and compete for Merit Scholarship awards that are offered in the spring.

At Blake we are proud of the fact that every year 20-25 percent of our graduates are officially recognized by the National Merit program.
