  • Websites with U.S. History Primary Sources
    This link from the National History Day site has a great selection of primary sources.

  • American Memory Project from the Library of Congress
    Thousands of documents, photos, maps, films, sound recordings, etc. from the collections of the Library of Congress, including women's suffrage, African-American pamphlets, George Washington's letter books, life histories from the WPA, American Revolution broadsides, and more.

  • Internet History Sourcebooks Project
    A large collection of public domain historical documents covering ancient through modern history worldwide. For U.S. history, click on "Modern" and find U.S. historical eras in the sidebar.

  • New York Times Historical Edition (1851-2001)
    You can access this full-text collection of the New York Times at Hennepin County Library if you have a Hennepin County library card.

  • *U.S. History Resource Center
    Includes primary and secondary sources, and full-text articles from academic journals.

  • *Issues and Controversies in American History
    Includes primary and secondary sources.

  • Questia
    An online library of full-text academic books and articles. See library staff for a user name and password you need to access this database.

  • *Dictionary of American History
    This is the e-book edition of a multi-volume set on the reference shelves in the US library. It covers a wide range of topics in American history and includes useful bibliographies.

    *You need a password to access these databases away from school. Passwords are available from teachers and US library staff.

    Primary and Secondary Sources in the Library
    The Upper School library has a large selection of books dealing with all eras of American history, including specialized encyclopedias for historical eras. A good place to begin is the reference area right next to Ms. Arnott's desk.

    Passwords
    Any of the databases on the Upper School Media Resources page can be accessed on a networked computer at school with using a password. You need passwords for remote access. Please see library staff or your teacher for the password list.

    Library Cards
    Be sure you have a library card from your local public library. It allows you to borrow materials and access databases at all of the public libraries in the metro area.

    Interlibrary Loan
    Interlibrary loan is a process that allows you to request books and magazine articles from libraries around the state, including university and college libraries. Please see Ms. Arnott or Mr. Sherfey in the library for more information.
