Bill Colburn Receives Service Learning Award

US advanced drawing teacher Bill Colburn has been awarded the Minnesota Department of Education Service Learning Best Practice Award for service connections made between US artists and Vail Place. The service learning project was called Art As Gift.They studied mental illness and then went to Vail Place a club house model agency to serve adults with mental illness by talking with the club house members and drawing their portraits. The portraits were given to the members; the framed finished art is now displayed in the Vail Place Hopkins club house. Vail Place had an afternoon art opening that included talks given by members, students, and Bill Colburn.
