Vail Place Service Learning Project
Bill Colburn's Advanced Drawing class has recently paired with Vail Place, a local agency in Minneapolis dediated to working with people with mental illness through community based services. Through this partnership, Blake students have drawn portraits of Vail Place members over the last few weeks, with the final goal of gifting their student portraits to the Vail Place member who posed for them. Students studied issues of mental illness and learned loneliness is a often major difficulty for many people with mental illness. The service is companionship as well as the portraits.

Spirit of the Holiday Project
This year, as in the past several years, Blake students organized a division wide service project that brought holiday gifts to families and teens in the Twin Cities area. The ninth, tenth, and eleventh grade homerooms worked through ELIM transitional housing agency, providing gifts for local families. Senior homerooms worked with Avenues for Homeless Youth to help provide holiday gifts for young people in transitional housing over the holidays.
