Conflict Resolution Stories

On October 23rd ninth grade students from Stacy Helmbrecht-Wilson and Lisa Sackreiter's classes visited Petra Johnson's First grade classroom at Highcroft. After studying the concept of stories and their meaning in English class and the Islam culture in Social Studies class, Upper School students created children's books which explored themes of conflict resolution and peace. Ninth graders brought their books and shared them with the first graders. Upper school students asked first graders to help create an endings for the stories. First graders provided verbal suggestions as well as illustrations for the books. This was a Lower School/Upper Schools collaboration with attention to the creative process as well as to service themes of conflict resolution and peace.
