Ms. Moore
French I
2007-2008 Course Syllabus

This is an introductory course to expose all students to French language and cultural. Although students will progress through the program at their individual pace, it is my mission to develop a true love of the language and an appreciation for the multiple cultures of the French speaking world. Each unit is set up to highlight specific goals which, through practice, will build confidence to speak, write and read in the target language. Students will be expected to participate actively and, at times, take risks. I hope to engage and challenge each student, every day, to make this an exciting and memorable experience.

Teacher: Therese Moore tmoore@blakeschool.org

Other: Workbook; Grammar and Vocabulary Exercises; personal "carnet" journal

Topic goals for the year
Greeting and introducing oneself
Describing oneself and others

Discussing school subjects
Focusing on family information
Expressing emotions

Themes will incorporate a continued building of vocabulary, grammar skills and cultural awareness.

Classwork /homework: Students are expected to have all materials in class, including the personal journals for taking notes. Homework is an important part of the learning process and an extension of the classwork. It allows the students to practice alone (approx.20 minutes) what they have learned in class through group activities.

Assessments: We will have regular quizzes on a weekly basis to insure that we (as a class) are prepared to tackle new material. Once we have completed a given unit successfully, students will be given a broader assessment to demonstrate their understanding. Additional quarterly project assignments will be given as opportunities for creative expression of learning.

Extra Help: I will always make myself available should a student want additional support and I may at times request that a student spend time with me when it is necessary. I look forward to a wonderful year with my students, your children.
